Base Labs Partners with Hugging Face and Goodfire for AI Safety Initiative

Base Labs, the research arm of Baseten, has launched a partnership with Hugging Face and Goodfire AI to enhance safety for open-weight AI models. This initiative follows Baseten's recent $1.5 billion Series F funding round, which brought its valuation to $13 billion.

Hugging Face will contribute its expertise in safety evaluation and monitoring infrastructure, addressing the 6,000 abliterated models currently listed on its platform. Goodfire AI, which raised $150 million in its Series B funding earlier this year, specializes in model interpretability and emphasizes that safety must be integrated into open models by those who serve them.

Baseten asserts that openness is advantageous for AI safety, and the collaboration aims to create an ecosystem of open models that are both safe and accessible. This partnership reflects a growing trend in the industry towards prioritizing safety in AI development, particularly for open-source frameworks.
