Mistral Opens New Hub in Munich

Mistral has officially opened a new hub in Munich, aiming to leverage Germany's status as the largest industrial economy in the European Union. This facility will focus on advancing industrial AI applications, collaborating with notable partners such as BMW for crash simulations and engineering AI, and Siemens Energy for various industrial AI projects.

The Munich hub will also benefit from Mistral's recent acquisition of Emmi AI in May 2026, which brought in 30 physicists, researchers, and engineers specializing in AI modeling. This acquisition is part of Mistral's strategy to enhance its capabilities in creating systems that can understand the physical world, a key area identified for the next major advances in industrial AI.

Mistral is also collaborating with the Technical University Munich (TUM), where Prof. Dr. Nikolaus A. Adams will contribute to research on digital twins, further integrating academic insights into their industrial applications.

Dr. Karsten Wildberger, the German Federal Minister for Digital Transformation and Government Modernisation, and Dr. Florian Herrmann, Head of the Bavarian State Chancellery, attended the opening, emphasizing the importance of technological sovereignty in the context of AI development. Mistral's co-founder and CEO, Arthur Mensch, stated that this initiative represents a transition that will drive the next phase of sovereign European AI.

Mistral aims to achieve a planned European compute capacity of 1 gigawatt by 2030, positioning itself strategically within the European AI landscape.
