Syensqo Leverages AI to Innovate Sustainable Materials for Semiconductors

Syensqo, an advanced materials development company, has classified 88% of its product portfolio as sustainable. Mike Finelli, the Chief Technology and Innovation Officer, has been with the company for 33 years and noted that AI has been integrated into their research and development processes for the past two years.

Finelli stated that AI is pushing semiconductors and data centers to their physical limits, emphasizing the need for innovative materials to meet these demands. He aims to eliminate the trade-off between performance and sustainability, stating, "Our goal is to remove the trade-off between performance and sustainability."

Over the last 30 years, the electronics and semiconductor sectors have evolved significantly, and Finelli highlighted that this evolution has led to an accelerated cycle of materials innovation. This follows Syensqo's previous partnerships, including their collaboration with Microsoft in AI research and development, indicating a strategic focus on enhancing material performance through advanced technologies. In the last five years, new products and applications have contributed to 20% of Syensqo's annual revenues, showcasing the impact of their innovation strategy.
